It focuses on providing material and information that enable do-it-yourselfers to maintain and improve their homes.</p>

<p>La <strong>grande surface de bricolage</strong> regroupe, principalement, les matériaux de construction (building materials), la quincaillerie (hardware), le rayon de bricolage (do-it-yourself department) et le centre de jardinage (GARDEN-CENTER).</p>

<p>La rénovation est un secteur souvent cité pour illustrer les concepts de grande surface minimarge (BIG-BOX STORE) et de grande surface spécialisée minimarge (CATEGORY KILLER).</p>

<p>Il ne faut pas confondre la <strong>grande surface de bricolage</strong> avec le magasin prêt-à-assembler (do-it-yourself store, DIY store) qu'illustre, par exemple, IKEA dans son rayon de mobilier.</p>

<p>Le terme <strong>maisonnerie</strong> a été normalisé par le Journal officiel du 12-2-1987.</p>
